Ancient Greek city states
Chalcedon was an ancient Greek city located in Bithynia in Asia Minor.
The city of Chalcedon was home to an important port that benefited from the wealth of nearby Byzantium. The city has long vacillated between Spartan and Athenian interests.
Today the area of the ancient city is called Kadıköy and forms part of Istanbul, Turkey. The name of the city gives its name to the mineral chalcedony.
