The picturesque sand and shingle beach of Agia Fotia is located in the south-eastern part of the Greek island of Crete, surrounded by a high wall of surrounding rocks. Its distance is about 109 km southeast of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
Agia Fotia beach is located in a beautiful rocky bay and forms part of the small and peaceful resort of the same name, Agia Fotia. Although resort may be a bit of a mouthful, as there are a couple of tavernas with rooms to rent and a beautiful church in the surrounding hills.
The beach is roughly 150 metres long and is covered with a mixture of coarse sand and small pebbles of a dark grey colour, which together with the surrounding high cliffs and azure blue sea provide an amazing spectacle for our visitors. Agia Fotia is one of the partially organised beaches, with a small tavern in the eastern part of the beach and sunbeds with straw parasols available for tourists. The other part of the beach is left natural and you can take advantage of the shade of the mature tamarisk trees.
If you head to the rocks at the eastern end of the beach, you may be lucky enough to spot a small spring of fresh water springing up. The beach also includes a small beach volleyball court, where a popular tournament is held every year. Otherwise, Agia Fotia beach is very quiet and you can relax here.
