The beach forms part of the popular tourist resort of Agia Galini, which is situated on the shores of Mesara Bay, in the southern part of the island of Crete. Despite the growing tourist interest, the resort remains rather quiet and relaxed - with a picturesque harbour, the flowing Platis River and stunning views of the White Mountains.

Agia Galini beach lies to the east of the resort centre, is about 200m long and is mostly sand, with fine pebbles in places. The beach is well protected from strong winds and the sea is almost always calm in this area. The gradual entry into the water also makes it ideal for families with children. On the other hand, the water coming from the local river lowers the sea temperature by a degree.

Agia Galini is a very well organised beach with sunbeds, umbrellas and water sports on offer. Nearby there are tavernas, bars and accommodation.

Further east, across the metal bridge that crosses the Platis River, is another nice beach. It is smaller, pebbly and used to be known mainly among nudists. Next to the beach is the Agia Galini campsite.

And what attractions can you find around the beach? You can make your lazing on the beach more interesting by taking a walk to the remains of the ancient temple of the goddess Artemis, which were discovered near the local river. Also enjoy the view of the open sea with the two small islands of Paximadia. There are boat trips to the islets, as well as cruises to the east past the beautiful caves. Or a boat taxi can take you to other nice beaches in the area, such as Preveli, Agios Pavlos or Kokkinos Pyrgos.
