Almirida beach (sometimes also spelled Almyrida) is part of the peaceful and well-equipped tourist resort of Almirida, located about 23 km east of Chania and only 1 km west of the popular resort of Plaka (not to be confused with Plaka in the northeastern part of Crete). The beach stretches along the southern shore of the local Souda Bay, close to Cape Drapanos.

The Almirida area is particularly popular for its beautiful, almost unspoilt, surrounding countryside. The village is set amongst vast olive groves and Almirida beach has been awarded the EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness. The long sandy beach descends gently into the azure blue sea, so it's no wonder it's popular with families with younger children and older couples. However, even those on a more active holiday won't be disappointed, as there is an adrenaline-fuelled water sports centre right on the beach, including a well-known windsurfing school, and if you follow the coastline eastwards towards Cape Drapanos, you'll see several so-called sea caves.

Almyrida Beach has good facilities, and tourists can rent sun loungers and umbrellas and have a snack in one of the beach tavernas, which are famous for their dishes made from fresh sea catch. Opposite the beach is the islet of Karga, a natural breeding ground for several species of birds. It is often visited by local fishermen, but also by beachgoers in rented boats. A small fishing harbour lies at the eastern end of the beach.
