The beautiful and well-equipped sandy beach of Amoudara is located in the northeastern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 65 km east of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
The popular sandy beach of Amoudara (or Ammoudara) is located on the shores of the famous Mirabello Bay, close to the eponymous resort of Amoudara and about 5 km south of the modern seaside resort of Agios Nikolaos. The village of Amoudara is very quiet, but provides all services and amenities to tourists and attracts especially to its beautiful beach.
The relatively long sandy beach of Amoudara is one of the organised beaches, visitors have sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, beach showers and even an offer of adrenaline water sports. There are also several refreshment options, with a larger taverna right on the beach and other tavernas and restaurants across the road in the adjacent resort. The old road linking the large towns of Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Ierapetra passes directly between the beach and the built-up area of the resort.
Amoudar beach is covered with light sand and its shores are washed by crystal clear sea. The combination of fine sand, shallow waters and calm sea attracts families with small children and older tourists. As the beach is quite narrow, it can feel very crowded, especially in the summer months. If you're looking for more tranquillity, head west along the coast and the beautiful sandy beach of Almyros is not far away. Almyros Beach is tourist-friendly and well-equipped, but it doesn't tend to be that crowded.
