The long and quiet sand and shingle beach of Dermatos is located in the southern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 64 km south of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
Dermatos beach is located in a quiet tourist spot on the southern coast of Crete, about 4 km east of the small Greek village of Tsoutsouros and its nice sandy beach. The beach is situated at the mouth of the Anapodiaris River, which is the longest river in the prefecture of Heraklion.
Dermatos is a fairly long beach covered with a mixture of sand and pebbles, with a gradual entry into the water. The sea in this area is clean and mostly calm. The beach is left in its natural environment, without any tourist facilities. However, you can enjoy the silence and relaxation in the shade of the small tamarisk trees.
Dermatos beach tends to be very quiet to the point of being deserted, as there is nothing but olive groves in the vicinity. Sometimes it is used by nudists or campers. Not far from the beach, you'll come across a road that leads around the coastline to the neighbouring beaches - to the west to the long sandy beach of Tsoutsouros (with accommodation and hospitality services in the adjacent village) and to the east to the pebble and sandy beach of Keratokambos (and the good tourist resort there).
