Makrigialos Beach - Crete

Makry Gialos, Makrygialos

The long and beautiful sandy beach of Makrigialos is located in the southeastern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 120 km southeast of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion). Makrigialos is one of the most popular beaches in the area.

On the southeast coast of the island is the medium-sized seaside resort of Makrigialos, whose main attractions are good tourist facilities and beautiful sandy beaches, washed by crystal clear sea. The resort's most popular and best-known beach is the eponymous Makrigialos beach (translated as "long shore"), also known among the locals as Hani or simply Long Beach.

Makrigialos is a large beach with warm and soft sand that is so pleasant to sink your bare feet into. The gentle descent into the sea and azure clear waters have quickly gained popularity with tourists, including families with smaller children and non-swimmers. Yet even in the peak tourist season, the beach does not feel crowded and, thanks to the greater distance from the busiest holiday resorts, it still retains a peaceful atmosphere.

Visitors can find sun loungers with umbrellas, beach showers and sports centres offering adrenaline-pumping water activities. The beach is located in the centre of the resort and there is a long promenade with many guesthouses, taverns and bars nearby. All services are at your fingertips. What we particularly appreciate about the local tavernas is that much of their menu is traditional Cretan cuisine and freshly caught seafood.
