The small sand and shingle beach of Psaromoura is located in the northern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 28 km northwest of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
Psaromoura Beach is located in a small bay in the north of Crete, just 500 metres north of the popular holiday resort of Agia Pelagia. So if the main beach of Agia Pelagia becomes unbearably crowded in the summer months, there is another alternative - smaller and quieter - within a short walking distance. Psaromoura Beach is particularly popular with locals, but tourists are also beginning to discover its charms.
The surface of the beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles, which continue on to the seabed, and the sea is usually beautifully clear. Psaromoura is one of the organised beaches, with sunbeds and umbrellas and beach showers available to visitors. There is a small snack bar near the beach, otherwise you can dine in one of the nearby tavernas serving delicious Greek and international food.
The bay in which Psaromoura beach lies is already more open than, for example, the nearby touristy beaches of Agia Pelagia or Ligaria. And although it's surrounded by rocky cliffs, it's more prone to windy weather, with bigger waves rising during strong northerly winds (called meltemi). Mostly, however, the sea is calm and well heated. Mononaftis, the neighbouring beach, is similarly situated.
