The sandy and well-equipped beach of Sitia is located in the northeastern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 129 km east of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
Sitia Beach is situated in a picturesque bay, on the shore of the beautiful harbour town of Sitia. The resort of Sitia stands out for its unique architecture and beautiful coastal promenade, decorated with modern mosaic flooring. Sitia beach is located in the centre of the resort, east of the lively harbour and adjacent promenade. Yet the resort and beach are among the quieter places, already quite a distance from the island's busiest tourist resorts.
The roughly 1 km long Sitia beach is mostly sandy, in some places rather sand and shingle. Like the whole resort, the beach itself is very tourist-friendly - visitors can find sunbeds with umbrellas, beach showers and even a lifeguard. Thanks to the beautifully clear water and gradual entry into the sea, the place is also popular with families with smaller children and people with reduced mobility. If you're looking for a little privacy, head to the eastern end of the beach, which is unorganised, covered with a few trees and ideal for parking caravans, for example.
However, the local road that runs adjacent to the beach, separating it from the nearby tavernas and restaurants, can be disturbing. Other tasty tavernas, small cafes and bars can be found on the beautiful coastal promenade, in the pleasant setting of the surrounding palm trees and roses, and you can even observe life in the local harbour from here.
If you like swimming and nice beaches, the beaches on the east coast of Crete are a good choice. There is the famous "palm" beach of Vai, surrounded by a large grove of naturally growing date palms, and you can also spend a pleasant afternoon on the long, sandy beaches of Xerokambos and Kouremenos, for example.
