The quiet, pebble beach of Tavronitis is located in the northwestern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 160 km west of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
Tavronitis beach belongs to the eponymous, touristy, peaceful holiday resort. The resort of Tavronitis is located about 20 km west of the regional town of Chania, near the resort of Maleme, and forms part of a long stretch of beach that stretches from the resort of Kolymbari to the town of Stalos.
This pleasant and spacious beach is situated at the mouth of the Tavronitis River, which almost dries up in summer and forms wetlands. Tavronitis beach is covered with small pebbles and the coastline slopes gently into the water in this area. The azure sea shines in the distance and attracts visitors to swim. You will often see families with smaller children or couples enjoying water games and relaxing in the shallow water off the coast with a beautiful view of the bare mountains of the Kissamos peninsula. However, sometimes the strong northerly winds bring with them bigger waves. On such days, we recommend that only good swimmers swim further offshore.
Tavronitis beach is rather modestly equipped, with only a few sunbeds and umbrellas available to visitors, as well as an adjacent taverna and beach bar. Other tourist services can be found in the resort itself. The beach is often very quiet and never crowded, but it has found its fans among locals and tourists alike. Its scenic beauty is enhanced by the small tamarisk trees growing along the beach, providing visitors with pleasant shade.
