Resort Amoudara - characteristics and facilities

The small but well-equipped tourist resort of Amoudara (or Ammoudara) is situated along the rugged coastline of the famous Mirabello Bay, just 5 km south of the lively and modern resort of Agios Nikolaos, and thus forms a de facto suburb of the latter. However, the area is very quiet, more suited to walking and relaxing, and is particularly popular with families with children and older couples. It also boasts a beautiful sandy beach of the same name.

The village of Amoudara has a variety of accommodation from individual apartments for rent, to small guesthouses, to beautiful and modern hotels. The tourist facilities of the resort also include several excellent tavernas and restaurants, as well as several bars, cafes and shops with a variety of goods.

Amoudara coast and beach

The coastline around Amoudara is mostly rocky, made up of various rocky outcrops, but there are also several small bays and coves that provide a more comfortable entrance to the sea. Right in the centre of the resort, in one such larger bay, lies a beautiful sandy beach of the same name.

The surface of Amoudara beach is made up of fine light sand, which continues on along the seabed. The entrance to the sea in this area is gradual and the waters are calm, so it is not surprising that the beach has become popular with families with children or non-swimmers. However, during the main tourist season, the beach is often crowded, so it is worth heading west to the other nice beach, Almyros, which is not as crowded.

For whom the centre is suitable

The resort of Amoudara has the great advantage of being located in close proximity to the larger tourist resort of Agios Nikolaos, which offers a wider range of shopping, cultural and entertainment opportunities. At the same time, it is very quiet and more connected to nature, so tourists can also enjoy relaxation and more privacy. Amoudara also has a beautiful and well-equipped beach (you won't find one in Agios Nikolaos).

Thanks to its proximity to the main road and excellent tourist facilities, Amoudara is also ideal as a starting point for travelling and exploring the beauty of the eastern part of Crete.
