Characteristics of Daratso

The original fishing village has grown into the pleasant tourist resort of Daratso, which today consists of two parts - the "upper Daratso" situated on a hill and looking down to the coast, and the "lower Daratso", or Kato Daratso, stretching along the rugged seashore. The resort of Daratsos is located just 3 to 4 km from the beautiful and lively town of Chania (Hania).

Daratso is very well equipped for tourism, with several hotels, guesthouses and small family villas, often set in large gardens full of flowers and trees. The Daratso area is generally very green and connected to nature, with olive trees and centuries-old cedars growing in the area and trees stretching all the way to the coast. In addition to accommodation, tourists will find a variety of shops, pleasant tavernas and bars. For nightlife, the most common destination is nearby Chania.

Despite being a de facto suburb of the well-known city of Chania, the resort is still one of the quiet and rather family-friendly holiday resorts.

Daratsos and beaches

The surroundings of the resort consist of a very rugged coastline, which hides several coves with beautiful sandy beaches. Depending on your mood, you can choose between lively beaches with bars and water sports centres or quiet sandy coves with sun loungers and parasols. There's even a little hidden cove where you can enjoy some privacy.

Popular beaches include Kalamaki, Agii Apostoli (Agioi Apostoloi) and Chrissi Akti. The coastline slopes gently into the sea and the water in this area is wonderfully clear.

Nearby Daratso and tips for trips

During your stay at the resort, you can take a trip to the nearby hinterland and soak up the true atmosphere of traditional Greek villages. If, on the other hand, you're craving tourism and entertainment, you'll be in the famous town of Chania in no time.

About 6 km to the south, near the small village of Varipetro, is the Limnoupolis Water Park with plenty of fun water attractions for the young and the more adventurous.

Who is the centre suitable for?

Daratso is a peaceful and very pleasant holiday resort, surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful sandy bays. It is especially popular with families with children and couples. At the same time, the village is located just a few kilometres from the touristy city of Chania, so it is not a problem to go here for shopping or entertainment.
