The small and peaceful seaside resort of Dramia is located in the northwestern part of the Greek island of Crete, about 99 km west of the capital Heraklion (Iraklion).
The fishing village of Dramia is located in the bay of Almiros, off the northern coast of Crete. It is located on the border between the two prefectures of Chania and Rethymno, and falls under the regional town of Chania (about 46 km away).
The small Cretan village of Dramia has only about 150 permanent inhabitants and lives mainly from tourism. There are mostly small hotels and family-run guesthouses, a few nice taverns and small shops. Thanks to the local fishing tradition, you can enjoy delicious dishes made from fresh sea catches. Otherwise, the resort is very peaceful and similar to the neighbouring resort of Kavros.
The eponymous Dramia beach actually forms the eastern end of a long stretch of sandy beaches that stretch along the coast of Almiros Bay. To the west, this sandy coastline begins with Georgioupolis Beach and is approximately 10 km long in total.
Thanks to the gradual entry into the sea and the beautifully clear water, the beaches are very popular and are also popular with families with children. A large number of the beaches have also been awarded the EU Blue Flag for their cleanliness and facilities. However, visitors must beware of strong northerly winds, which bring with them big waves and treacherous sea currents.
Visitors to the village of Dramia will be captivated by the beautiful mountain scenery created by the nearby Lefka Ori ("White Mountains"), which invites hiking. The traditional mountain villages of Episkopi and Argiropolis, for example, are popular destinations. In addition, on the way to Episkopi you can visit the tiny chapel of Agia Paraskevi, which is actually a small block of rock located on the west bank of the Mouselas River. Not far from the resort is the only freshwater lake in Crete, Lake Kournas. It is also easily accessible on foot.
By car, or by public transport, you can easily reach the nearby larger resorts of Georgioupolis, Rethymno and Chania. The regional towns of Rethymno and Chania, in particular, offer tourists great opportunities for entertainment, shopping, cultural activities and sightseeing of beautiful historical monuments.
Dramia is a really small and quiet seaside resort, which will be best suited to those who are looking for peace, relaxation and a bit of an escape from the big crowds. However, if local visitors are looking for a bit of excitement and fun or a visit to one of Crete's unique sights, this is no problem thanks to good transport links. The North Cretan motorway passes close to the resort.
