The remains of the early Christian basilica Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas) can be found on the north coast of Crete, east from the city of Hersonissos.
The basilica Agios Nikolaos stood at the shore of the Aegean Sea, in the region of today´s resort of Hersonissos. What we know about the church is, that its age is dated back to the 6th century and that it was decorated by a beautiful mosaic floor.
On its ruins, today´s church Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas) was built, but the remains of the original basilica are still evident.
