The large amusement and educational complex Dinosauria Park is sure to attract both young and old visitors who will not be able to take their eyes off the huge, moving and roaring dinosaurs. The dinosaur park is located about 15 km east of the capital city of Heraklion.
With the aim of introducing the public to the fascinating world of dinosaurs, preferably in their natural habitat and movement, the Dinosauria Park was built off the north coast of Crete, near the town of Gournes. The park has been open to the public since 2014 and since then it has been continuously expanded and innovated, with new dinosaur species installed and a growing range of children's activities.
At Dinosauria Park, you can gradually discover about 30 species of dinosaurs historically covering the entire Mesozoic era, including amphibious dinosaurs and several other prehistoric animals. The creators of the project have emphasized authenticity as much as possible, so you'll walk among life-size dinosaurs, most of which can also move and even make sounds. Imagine a giant "king of the dinosaurs" Tyrannosaurus coming to life right in front of you! You can also see a rare collection of prehistoric skeletons and fossils.
Children will also have fun in the so-called Dinosaur Hospital, where they can see dinosaur babies hatching or take care of sick baby dinosaurs. The dinosaur park also offers several fun "dinosaur" games for children, including participation in an archaeological dig or a playground. The complex also includes a 5D and 7D cinema showing themed films for children and adults, restaurants, refreshment stands and a gift shop. There are regular bus services from the capital Heraklion and the nearby holiday resort of Hersonissos - Stalida - Malia, and the resort is easily accessible by car.
The park's official website is: www.dinosauriapark.com (Here you can find out the current opening hours and entrance fees.)
