Gods of Olympus
In Greek mythology, Acheron is a god, the son of the god Helios and the goddess Gaia. Other sources say his mother was Demeter. He took Gorga as his wife.
During the Titans' revolt against Zeus, he stood by the Titans and refreshed them. For this deed he was punished by being turned into a river. Later, this river was considered to be the border of the underworld.
The name Acheron is borne by an actual river in central Macedonia (near the city of Parga) that empties into the Ionian Sea.
