Greek gods - others
In Greek mythology, Charon is the ferryman of the dead to the underworld. Charón was the son of the god of eternal darkness, Erebus, and the goddess of night called Nyx.
It probably entered Greek mythology later, as even Homer does not mention it. Charon ferried the dead to the other side of the underworld on the River Styx. He always demanded money for the transport, which is why the ancient Greeks put a coin under the tongue of their dead.
No one alive was allowed to enter the underworld. Only Heracles, who was transported by Charon, made it. For this, Charon was punished by the god Hades by having to serve in chains for a year.
