Greek philosophers

Altheides

Altheides was a Greek philosopher who was born in 1193 in Cyprus to a merchant family.

Altheides is also known as Altheides of Cyprus or the wandering philosopher. He died in 1262, but unfortunately only a small part of his works have survived.

Historical sources state that Altheides founded his own School of Philosophy in Jerusalem in 1226. However, the school was not very successful as it was dissolved in 1229. Since then, there are only brief references to Altheides. He was to wander through various countries (Morocco, Spain, Rome, Egypt) and then to end up in his native Cyprus.
