Charóndas
Charóndas was a Greek philosopher and legislator who lived in the 7th century BC.
The main work of the philosopher and legislator Charóndus was a verse code for the Greeks in the Sicilian colony of Catania, which eventually spread to other areas.
- Among other things, he introduced state-funded reading and writing instruction for the sons of all citizens.
- In another law, he decreed that no one could bring a weapon to a popular assembly. Anyone who does so must be killed. He himself broke this law one day when he forgot to put his gun away in his haste. After being warned of this deed, he stabbed himself.
