Greek philosophers
Dio of Prusa was a Greek philosopher, orator, writer and historian. He was born in 40 AD in Prusa (now Bursa, Turkey) and died in 120 AD. He was active in the Roman Empire in the 1st century.
In his youth, his father Pasikrates led him to education. Dio later used his knowledge and held important offices. Only then did he devote himself to the study of philosophy. He did not confine himself to a particular philosophical field or school. Nor was he himself motivated to create any new theory. His aim was the application of philosophical doctrine to the needs of practical life. And this with an emphasis on application to governance.
Of all the schools of philosophy, he was most influenced by Stoicism and also by Middle Platonism.
He wrote many philosophical and historical works.
