Agios Fokas is a small resort on the eastern coast of the Greek island of Kos, about 8 km southeast of the main town of Kos. Agios Fokas is mainly known for its long sandy and pebble beach and its more peaceful atmosphere.
Agios Fokas is one of the smaller and less busy destinations on Kos. It is located in the hilly terrain off the southeast coast of the island, with a magnificent view of the sea. However, it is not a resort in the typical sense of the word - with a centre, an original village, etc. The resort of Agios Fokas is made up of several hotel complexes and resorts, mainly of the higher category, which are focused on comfort, quality service and relaxation. There are also some restaurants, beach bars and smaller shops, but the larger shopping options and nightlife are more likely to be found in the main town of Kos.
The resort of Agios Fokas is about 8 km from the main town of Kos and about 6 km from the nearby seaside resort of Psalidi. There are regular bus and taxi services between the resorts, and it is also possible to rent a car, scooter or bicycle and set off on your own. There is also a cycle path leading from the Agios Fokas area.
The main attraction of the resort is Agios Fokas beach, which is characterized by a combination of sand and pebbles and crystal clear water. The beach is well organised with sunbeds and umbrellas, and offers a quieter alternative to the busier beaches of Lambi or Tigaki. However, even at Agios Fokas beach, visitors can spend their time actively and take advantage of, for example, the water sports on offer or the beach volleyball court. Thanks to the good weather, the place is also popular with surfers.
The Aghios Fokas beach bar is well-known for its environmentally friendly atmosphere and offers customers a cosy, shaded seating area.
About 3 km westwards along the coast are the famous Empros Thermes thermal springs (Therma Beach), where visitors can enjoy a natural hot bath in mineral-enriched seawater. The waters are rich in elements such as sulphur, potassium, calcium and magnesium and are popular for their therapeutic properties. Visitors may also notice small bubbles that form from the seabed, caused by volcanic gases due to the proximity of the volcano on the island of Nisyros.
Agios Fokas is ideal for couples and travellers who are looking for a quieter place to relax by the sea, but also want a short trip to Kos Town for history, culture and entertainment. Its proximity to thermal springs and spectacular views of the Turkish coast make it a great choice for a relaxing holiday.
