Lagoudi - Kos Island

Lagoudi

Lagoudi is a beautiful mountain village located in the interior of the Greek island of Kos, surrounded by forests and lush nature. The village lies about 14 km southwest of the capital of Kos and attracts with its peaceful environment, picturesque views and authentic atmosphere.

Resort Lagoudi

Lagoudi is one of the smaller resorts on the island of Kos and is known for its peaceful atmosphere. The traditional mountain village is hidden at a higher altitude in the north-eastern part of the island, on the slopes of Mount Dikeos, surrounded by pine and cypress forests, olive groves and several mountain springs. The majority of the local population still lives by farming and cattle breeding.

Lagoudi does not have the major infrastructure typical of busy tourist resorts, but visitors will enjoy a few traditional tavernas, cafes and small shops selling local produce. Accommodation options in Lagoudi are very limited and include only a few small family-run guesthouses and private apartments, which adds to the sense of peace and privacy. Services such as car rentals, pharmacies, post offices or shopping centres are not available here, but all the necessary tourist facilities are offered by the capital Kos (14 km) and the nearby seaside resorts of Tigaki (8 km) or Marmari (10 km).

Lagoudi and tips for trips

The main advantage of Lagoudi is the magnificent views of the countryside and the authentic Greek atmosphere. The church of St. Mary (Panagia Lagoudiani) in the typical blue and white design, standing at the top of the village, is an unmissable sight in Lagoudi. If you come here on the 8th of September, you can also take part in the traditional festivities that take place in its courtyard. There are also several small chapels near Lagoudi, such as the beautiful chapel of Agios Ioannis Theologos, which stands on massive rocks and shines in the distance with its white walls and blue roof.

From Lagoudi it is possible to take a number of interesting excursions around the area. The village is close to the popular tourist destination of Zia, famous for its spectacular sunsets and traditional markets. The two villages are less than one kilometre apart and in some maps and guidebooks we can already see the common name Lagoudi Zia.

Lagoudi is also a great starting point for hiking up Mount Dikeos, the highest point on the island, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views. In the surrounding pine forests, on the outskirts of the village of Zia, lies the Zia Nature Park. The pleasant, lush environment hides hiking trails, diverse vegetation, streams and a small zoo with goats, donkeys, etc.

Near Lagoudi, about 7 km to the west, are the ancient villages of Pyli and Paleo Pyli, which offer a glimpse into history and the opportunity to explore the remains of a Byzantine town with a fortress.

For whom is Lagoudi suitable

Lagoudi is ideal for travellers looking for a quiet holiday away from the main tourist centres. It is suitable for couples, seniors and nature lovers who want to enjoy relaxation, hiking, photography and discovering the authentic face of Kos.
