Marmari is a pleasant holiday resort that attracts visitors with its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful beach and convenient location. Marmari is located off the northern coast of the island of Kos, about 15 km west of the capital of Kos.
Marmari is a small but constantly developing seaside resort with quality tourist services. It is located on the northern side of the island of Kos, between the other popular tourist resorts of Tigaki and Mastichari, just 15 km from the capital of Kos.
Marmari has the classic tourist amenities in the form of hotels, apartments, cafes, discos and a variety of shops. Visitors can sample traditional Greek dishes and international cuisine in the local tavernas and restaurants, which are widely located right on the coast, and as an added bonus, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the local azure sea. Apart from a couple of discos, the nightlife is mainly in the hotel complexes, otherwise the resort is mostly quiet at night. For nightlife, young tourists go mainly to the nearby capital of Kos.
Marmari beach is one of the main attractions of the resort. It stretches for several kilometres and is covered with fine light sand, making it ideal for families with children. The water is crystal clear and the entrance to the sea is gradual. The beach has sun loungers, umbrellas and a range of water sports such as windsurfing and paddleboarding. Tourists can also experience an unusual sporting activity, namely horse riding along the coast.
The eastern part of Marmari Beach is known as Limnaria Beach. Limnaria is an ideal place for various water adrenaline activities, as there are several sports equipment rentals and sports schools where you can pay for a lesson with an instructor. The most popular sports activities include windsurfing and kitesurfing.
In Marmara you can rent a car, motorbike or bicycle and experience life outside the resort. The island of Kos offers plenty of opportunities for excursions, whether you prefer natural attractions, animal contact, water sports, boating or historical sightseeing. There are also regular bus services and a taxi service between the resorts.
The area around Marmari is rather flat and invites romantic walks or cycling, for example to the nearby Alikes salt lake. The lake, once used for salt mining, is now a nature reserve and a haven for many species of birds. For horse lovers, we definitely recommend a visit to the Erikas Horse Farm, located right in the village of Marmari. The farm offers horseback riding in the surrounding countryside and on the beach, and children can ride ponies in the farm's grounds, for example.
The traditional village of Pyli, around 5 km inland, is worth a visit in the Marmari area. Here you can admire the ancient houses, the traditional Greek atmosphere and taste the local specialities. Nearby is the old town of Paleo Pili, an original Byzantine town with the remains of a castle built between the 9th and 11th centuries.
The resort is also a good base for excursions to the capital of Kos or to the nearby beaches of Tigaki and Mastichari. For water adventure enthusiasts, we can also recommend the Lido water park (about 5 km from Marmari). Cruises along the coast, to the nearby islands of Kalymnos and Pserimos or a boat trip to the Turkish port town of Bodrum are also very popular.
Visitors have come to love Marmari for its clean beaches and water activities. It is suitable for families, couples and nature lovers looking for a smaller resort with ample facilities and excursions in the surrounding area.
Thanks to its location and welcoming atmosphere, it is also suitable for the undemanding traveler who wants to explore the island of Kos while enjoying a pleasant place to relax.
