Psalidi - Kos Island

Psalidi

The popular tourist resort of Psalidi is located on the east coast of the Greek island of Kos, just 4 km southeast of the main town of Kos. The resort of Psalidi offers a quieter atmosphere than the centre of Kos, yet is easily accessible from it. Thanks to its location by the sea and excellent tourist facilities, Psalidi is a popular place for relaxation and sports activities.

Tourist resort Psalidi

The medium-sized resort of Psalidi is one of the most popular and well-equipped tourist resorts on the island of Kos. It is located at the eponymous Cape Psalidi, on the eastern edge of the island, just a few kilometres from the capital of Kos. Due to the expanding development and growth of the resort and the adjacent long beach, Psalidi is already practically merging with the town of Kos and is therefore sometimes referred to as a suburb of the capital.

The Psalidi area is thus also popular with younger tourists who come here for the nightlife. Thanks to its proximity to Kos Town, visitors have easy access to a large number of bars and clubs. However, the resort of Psalidi itself is not very noisy at night. Psalidi is a popular centre for water sports. But besides adrenaline-pumping water sports, the resort also offers other activities such as golf, horse riding, hiking, cycling and go-karting.

Along the main coastal road stretches a tourist zone with many restaurants and tavernas offering Greek and international cuisine, bars and a variety of shops. There are supermarkets, boutiques and souvenir shops.

The village has car, motorbike and bicycle rental shops, ideal for exploring the island. Thanks to the 4 km long cycle path between the resort and Kos Town, cycling is very popular here. There are also regular bus and taxi services between the resorts.

Accommodation options in Psalidi are very varied. The area offers a wide range of accommodation from luxury hotel complexes to smaller hotels, apartment houses and private guest houses. Most of the accommodation is located near or within walking distance of the beach.

Psalidi Wetlands

Right in the tourist area of Psalidi is a wetland full of reeds and lush vegetation, which serves as a seasonal refuge for many species of migratory birds, including the pink flamingo. It is a protected nature reserve covering almost 100 hectares. It is connected to the sea by a natural water channel, creating a brackish marsh with a permanent presence of water. During the Italian occupation, the wetland was used as a salt pan for salt production, but today it is mainly a stopover for dozens of migratory birds. Its rich flora and fauna includes marine vegetation, Aegean scrub, water turtles, herons, ducks and, during the migratory season, many flamingos. An ideal place for bird watching.

Psalidi Beach - Paradiso Beach and Ramira Beach

The resort boasts a long, mostly pebble beach, Psalidi, which stretches from the port of the capital along the coast to Cape Psalidi. The surface of the beach is a mixture of sand, pebbles and pebbles washed by the clear azure sea. Psalidi beach is organized, equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas. Along the beach there are also beach bars, taverns where visitors can taste fresh fish dishes and other Greek specialties, shops and water sports centers. There is also a cycle path leading along the coast to Kos town.

Psalidi Beach offers visitors a variety of water activities - thanks to the steady wind, windsurfing and kitesurfing are among the local favourites, but also banana boating, jet skiing, paddleboarding and fishing, for example. Thanks to the crystal clear water, we recommend trying snorkelling and diving.

As Psalidi beach is more than 4 km long, it has started to divide into several parts. The part to the south of the port of Kos is called Psalidi - Paradiso Beach. Paradiso Beach is mainly made up of pebbles and has very good tourist facilities in the form of sunbeds, umbrellas, toilet facilities, beach bars and water sports centres. Paradiso Beach is a livelier beach, easily accessible from the centre of Kos and is particularly popular for its adrenaline-pumping water activities.

On the other hand, the more distant part of the beach, adjacent to the hotel resorts at Cape Psalidi, is called Psalidi - Ramira Beach. Ramira Beach is mostly covered with pebbles to pebbles and washed by crystal clear sea. Ramira Beach is particularly popular with visitors who enjoy comfort, tranquillity and beautiful views, often tourists staying in nearby hotels. Ramira Beach is organized and equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers and bars.

The middle part of the beach remains unorganized, so it is ideal for quiet relaxation on the beach or romantic walks.

Excursions from the resort of Psalidi

The convenient location makes Psalidi a great starting point for excursions. The historic centre of Kos with its beautiful architectural and natural monuments, including the ancient Asklepion, is well worth a visit and the wider area is easily accessible by bike and on foot.

Cycling or driving is possible to the Therma thermal springs or to the mountain villages of the Dikeos mountains. The natural thermal baths of Empros Thermes, where visitors can bathe in warm mineral water, are located about 7 km to the south. The beautiful mountain villages of Zia, Lagoudi or Asfendiou are at a higher altitude, at the foot of the Dikeos Mountains, and are about 17 km from Psalidi.

It is also possible to take boat trips from the port in the nearby town of Kos. Popular cruises include excursions around the coast of Kos, to the nearby picturesque islands of Kalymnos, Plati and Pserimos, which lie to the north of Kos, and to the unique volcanic island of Nisyros, located on the opposite side of Kos to the south.

For whom is Psalidi suitable

A stay in Psalidi is suitable for couples, families and older travellers looking for a quieter place to stay with good tourist facilities. It is also ideal for those who want to combine relaxation by the sea with the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of the nearby town. Thanks to the flat terrain and cycle paths, the place is also popular among cyclists.
