The popular holiday resort of Tigaki is located on the northern coast of the Greek island of Kos, about 11 km west of the main town of Kos. Tigaki is known for its long sandy beach, its peaceful atmosphere and its excellent location close to the main town.
Tigaki is one of the smaller resorts on the island of Kos, but it offers a wide range of services and has become increasingly popular with tourists in recent years. In particular, the beautiful beach here is one of the most popular beaches on the island and has been awarded the EU Blue Flag several times for its cleanliness and facilities.
The local restaurants and tavernas offer many fish dishes, traditional Greek cuisine as well as international dishes. There are also several shops selling souvenirs and basic necessities. Accommodation in Tigaki tends to include smaller hotels, apartments and family-run guesthouses that are suitable for different types of visitors. Car, bike and scooter rentals are also available. For nightlife, most people go to the nearby capital of Kos.
The resort's main attraction is its Tigaki beach, the longest sandy beach on Kos. Tigaki Beach stretches for several kilometres, is covered in fine sand and has a gentle entrance to the sea, making it ideal for families with children. Visitors to the beach can enjoy sun loungers, parasols, beach bars and a wide range of water sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding.
There are several places of interest in the surroundings of Tigaki, such as the Alikes Nature Reserve, which is located very close to the resort and is therefore accessible on foot or by bike. Originally a salt lake, the surrounding wetlands have become home to many species of birds, including the beautiful flamingos. In general, the area around Tigaki is pleasantly green and full of beautiful nature, ideal for walks and bike trips.
Lovers of history and traditional atmosphere can visit one of the oldest villages on Kos, the village of Pyli, located just a few kilometres from Tigaki. Further up the hill above the village, at the foot of the Dikeos Mountains, is "Old Pyli". This Byzantine town of Palelo Pyli is now abandoned, but its remains have been preserved, such as old roads, courtyards, ruins of houses, fortifications and the remains of a castle.
A trip to the capital of Kos is also an excellent tip, where you can see the archaeological monuments, the Neratzia fortress and enjoy a busier atmosphere. Other popular excursions include cruises along the coast, to the nearby islands of Kalymnos and Pserimos, or a boat trip to the Turkish port town of Bodrum.
Car, motorbike or bicycle rentals are available in Tigaki. Regular bus services and a taxi service also operate between the resorts.
Tigaki is an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet holiday with the opportunity to relax on the beach and explore the surrounding area. Families, couples, seniors and individuals will appreciate the quality tourist services, resort facilities, as well as the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings. Thanks to the favourable winds that blow here, the area is also popular with windsurfing enthusiasts.
