The larger and livelier seaside resort of Faliraki is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island of Rhodes, famous for its holiday fun, entertainment and attractions, as well as its beautiful sandy beaches. It is located on the northeast coast of the island, about 15 km from the capital city of Rhodes.
The original small fishing village of Faliraki has grown over the years into a large and bustling seaside resort that has become popular with a large number of visitors to Rhodes. Faliraki benefits from its ideal location, situated on the northeast coast of Rhodes, in an area of beautiful sandy beaches and only 15 km south of the capital city of Rhodes. In addition, it provides its visitors with perfect facilities.
The Faliraki resort is made up of large hotel resorts as well as smaller, family-run hotels and villas, all set in the pleasant surrounding greenery. Thus, even quieter areas can be found here. However, the dominant feature of the resort is its centre, full of restaurants and taverns with flowering gardens, a variety of shops and entertainment of all kinds. After dark, the local discos and bars come alive with tourists from the surrounding resorts. At night, the centre of Faliraki glows perhaps even more than during the day.
Tourist services such as a post office, ATMs, pharmacy, car rentals, etc. are commonplace. There is also a health centre in the resort and, for example, local small travel agencies that organise popular tourist excursions.
Other symbols of the Faliraki holiday resort are the amusement park with its large Ferris wheel and the huge Faliraki Water Park, which is situated on the outskirts of the resort. The water park is one of the newest water parks in whole Greece. You can also take a stroll to the Faliraki Aquarium, which will especially delight children.
The advantage of the resort is the beautiful sandy beach of Faliraki with a gradual entrance to the sea, which offers plenty of space even in the main tourist season, is 5 km long and quite wide. Thanks to the golden sand and the slow descent into the sea, the beach is especially popular with families with children.
The beach also provides its visitors with a very good service, including comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas, social facilities and plenty of various taverns and snack stalls located here. There is also a wide range of water sports on offer.
If Faliraki Beach is too busy for you, try moving to the south of the resort, where the beautiful Kathara Beach is stretching, also covered in fine sand but much quieter. A bay to the south, you can visit the organised pebble beach of Mandomata, which is peaceful and well-known especially among nudists.
About 3 km south of Faliraki is another beautiful beach of Rhodes, the Anthony Quinn Beach. The beach is named after the famous American actor and is different from the previous ones as it is a small cove with a small pebble beach, surrounded by rocky walls and with crystal clear water.
The holiday resort of Faliraki has a lot to offer its visitors, but Rhodes is a beautiful Greek island with many interesting places to visit. And from Faliraki, it's relatively easy to get around the island, as Faliraki lies right on the main road that runs along the east coast.
First of all, we recommend visiting the capital city of Rhodes, a beautiful historic town with many valuable monuments that are a legacy of its long and interesting past. But besides the "Old Town Rhodes" there is also the "New Town Rhodes", a modern European centre with many hotels, restaurants, bars and a variety of shops. Very interesting is also the Acropolis of Rhodes with the remains of beautiful ancient buildings.
Roughly halfway between Faliraki and the capital city of Rhodes is the spa and recreational area of the former thermal baths of Kalithea. A beautiful tip for trip is also The Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes), that became famous by the butterflies of the Jersey tiger. The long green valley lies about 20 km inland.
There are several car and scooter rental companies in Faliraki, but we can also recommend the Rhodes bus service, which works reasonably well and takes you to various parts of the island. Available is also a boat taxi and a cruise train for a ride around the resort.
Faliraki belongs to the most popular tourist resorts on the island of Rhodes and has a lot to offer - from the quieter areas with smaller apartments and family-run taverns, to the bustling centre with nightclubs, to sports activities such as mini-golf and a water park. Faliraki is particularly renowned for its nightlife, as the sun sets, its centre is alive with bars, clubs and discos.
Thanks to its beautiful beach with fine sand and a gentle entrance to the sea, Faliraki can be recommended for families with children. The transport links to the resort are very good, making Faliraki a good starting point for travelling and exploring the island of Rhodes.
