The small and popular seaside resort of Koskinou is located at the northeast coast of the Greek island of Rhodes, about 7 km south of the capital city. Koskinou falls under the larger tourist resort of Kalithea.
The original, ancient village of Koskinou (or Reni Koskinou) is less than 3 km from the bustling tourist resort and lies towards the interior of Rhodes. Koskinou is a typically calm Greek village, but something special and well-known among the locals. The narrow streets here are lined with country houses whose doors literally shine out into the surrounding area as they are painted in vibrant colours (often red, blue, turquoise and yellow) with carved or etched designs. However, to see this beauty, you have to leave your car in the parking lot of the village square and venture further down one of the small streets of the preserved part of the village. Also the church of Virgin Mary, dating from the second half of the 19th century, which is a beautiful landmark of the local square is worth a visit.
In the newer part of the village there are more modern houses, built in recent years by rich people from Rhodes (just because of the short distance of the village from the capital city).
Another attraction of Koskinou is the local delicacy called "melekouni". This sweet is prepared by the housewives of the village before the big holidays and their production is a kind of ritual, accompanied by singing songs. You can order the 'melekouni' delicacy in the village (in the pastry shop or bakery).
The busiest tourist part of Koskinou is located on the coast of the island, in a nice sea bay lined with modern hotels and guesthouses. Accommodation facilities are complemented by taverns, restaurants and shops.
The popular Reni Koskinou Beach is mostly sandy, with sand and pebbles at the entrance to the water. Of course, there is beach service, water sports offer and various sports equipment rentals.
The advantage of Reni Koskinou is its location and good transport accessibility. Thanks to its proximity to the capital city of Rhodes, you can enjoy this beautiful historic town and its amazing sights several times during your holiday, for example you can visit it once during the day and once at night. You will find that each time you will be captivated and enthralled by something different.
A pleasant walk will take you, for example, to nearby Kalithea, where we recommend visiting the former seaside thermal baths of Kalithea ("Thermai Kalythiai"). The thermal springs of Kalithea have a very long history, as their therapeutic effects have been talked about already in the ancient times. The spa area is situated in a nice bay and was completely and modernly renovated in 2007.
During the main tourist season, the local bus service also works well, with routes to the capital city and other resorts on the island.
Reni Koskinou is a nice holiday resort with modern hotels, a beautiful sandy beach and excellent transport connections. It is only a few kilometres from the capital city of Rhodes or the very popular tourist resort of Faliraki, but still one of the most peaceful. Tourists can also rely on the quality tourist facilities.
