The popular tourist resort of Lardos is located at the southeast coast of the Greek island of Rhodes, about 50 km south of the capital city. The resort is located near the important historical town of Lindos.
The entire holiday resort is named after the eponymous inland village, which lies about 2 km away from the coast. The village of Lardos is a really beautiful example of Greek culture and typical, peaceful Greek life in general. Its description can also be found in many tourist guides as a tip for a nice trip in this area.
The village of Lardos greets visitors with a picturesque square, where a still functioning fountain stands in its centre to which locals go for natural spring water. The square is lined with several cafes and taverns and narrow streets can be walked through to the original buildings with stone paths and flower-filled houses. In the older part of the village the church of Agios Taxiarchas is standing, which is particularly impressive with its impressive bell tower and cypress-lined entrance.
The area is also famous for its black granite, a typical island building material, which gives the village its name.
However, the tourist part of the resort is located more towards the coast, on a plain between two hills and surrounded by greenery. Hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation facilities are built rather low, so as not to disturb the landscape and shade the trees. The whole resort has a very natural and calming impression.
Tourists can use all the basic tourist services, including a doctor clinic, pharmacies, hairdressers, currency exchange offices, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, car and bicycle rental, etc. Those who are interested can also try out various forms of entertainment, whether water adrenaline sports, "land" activities such as mini golf, tennis or evening entertainment in the form of discos or live music in taverns.
The resort of Lardos is located in the Gulf of Lardos on the southeastern coast of Rhodes and along its coastline, the beautiful Lardos Beach streches for about 2 km. The beach is organised and offers visitors a good beach service, a range of water sports and pleasant taverns in the immediate vicinity. The beach, covered with a mixture of sand and pebbles and washed by gentle waves, is rated as one of the most beautiful on the island.
There are other popular beaches in the area, mostly sandy, well organised and yet peaceful - to the east, Lardos is connected to the neighbouring Lothiarika Beach and you can walk along the coast to the popular Pefki Beach, while to the west you pass through Katsouni Beach and then along the road to the beautiful Glystra Beach.
The resort of Lardos is located less than 10 km west of the town of Lindos, which was one of the three ancient cities of the island of Rhodes and today is a world-famous archaeological site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the "white town" of Lindos, as it is also known for its unique architecture, should not be missed. In its neighbourhood are the beautiful beaches of Lindos (Megali Paralia), the smaller Pallas and, above all, the wonderfully romantic bay of St. Paul.
Lardos is in a good position for travelling and exploring the beauty of the whole island, as it lies roughly in the middle of the eastern coast and you will have the whole island on your hand. There is a road going through the resort which makes it easy to get to the main road connecting the north and south of the island and during the peak tourist season the local bus service also works well, with routes to the capital city of Rhodes and other resorts on the island.
Apart from the ancient village of Lindos, we recommend visiting the capital city of Rhodes with its rich sights and culture, the thermal baths of Kalithea, the Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes) or some of the beautiful Greek monasteries (Tsambika Monastery, Skiadenis, etc.).
The resort of Lardos is suitable for all generations of visitors. You can enjoy your holiday either by relaxing on the beach, or by taking active excursions to nearby and further afield and you can also try some beach sports.
Families with small children also appreciate the beautiful sandy beach and the gradual entrance to the sea.
