Resort Massari

The village of Massari (or Masari) is located in a fertile countryside area, close to the resorts of Malona and Haraki. Like the neighbouring village of Malona, the area around Massari is full of vast citrus groves and olive orchards. Most of the inhabitants are still engaged in agriculture and traditional crafts, although a growing tourism industry is already making inroads here. Here you can find apartments and rooms to rent, several taverns, bars and shops. In the village, there is also a school and a doctor's office. The resort has a small pebble beach, Massari.

The village is characterised by its beautiful religious buildings, especially the Church of St. John and the Kamiri Monastery, both dating from the Byzantine period. The Kamiri Monastery was built in the 14th century and is dedicated to Virgin Mary of Kamiriot. Its interior is decorated with very elaborate frescoes from the same period. The small village square is dominated by a magnificent bell tower.

A few kilometres west, inland, is the largest lake on Rhodes - the Gadoura Dam. The dam was built on an area of less than 50 km2 as a drinking water reservoir for the capital city of Rhodes.

The surrounding mountainous landscape, dotted with pine and cypress trees and especially long hectares of citrus groves and olive fields, is perfect for long walks and easy hikes. And picnics in the countryside are also very popular with hikers in this area.

Basic tourist facilities are provided here and the proximity of the main road connecting Rhodes and Lindos also makes the place ideal for renting a car and taking trips to the nearby resorts and the beautiful sights of Rhodes.
