The small, traditional village of Monolithos is located in a hilly area in the southwestern part of the Greek island of Rhodes, about 70 km southwest of the capital city. The dominant feature of the place is the medieval castle of Monolithos, built on a nearby rock.
The village of Monolithos is located in the interior of Rhodes, on the road between Apolakkia and Siana. Monolithos is a small, quiet village, but it gives a very pleasant and well-kept impression. You can stop at one of the local taverns or gift shops and you can also get local, high quality products here, especially fruits, wine and honey.
The village is especially famous for the medieval castle of Monolithos, which stood on a high rock close to the west coast (about 2 km west of the village). This rock is very recognisable as it stands out from the surrounding pine forests - hence the name Monolithos, which translates as "the only rock". The castle was most famous during the time of the Johannite Knights in the 15th century and nowadays visitors can see the remains and, above all, enjoy the stunning views from here.
After exploring the castle, we recommend moving down the coast to Fourni Beach and refreshing yourself in the crystal clear sea.
