Pefki - from a fishing village to a popular tourist resort

Pefki (or Pefkos) used to be a traditional fishing village and became a tourist resort slowly and gradually. Unlike many of the tourist resorts in Rhodes, it is not an artificial hotel resort and today, you will find modern hotel buildings and a bustling centre as well as original Greek buildings and natural green corners all in one place. What's more, everything is well balanced. The whole area has a very peaceful and relaxed holiday feel, as it is set in the pleasant surroundings of the shady pine grove that gave the village its name.

For accommodation, visitors can choose from small family apartments to hotel complexes providing all kinds of comfort for their guests. Pefki offers a number of related services that can be expected from a modern holiday destination - a pharmacy, currency exchange, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, souvenir shops, car and bicycle rentals, etc.

The road that runs through the resort is not the main one and, moreover, it only runs through the outskirts of the resort. If you approach the village from the north of the island of Rhodes, you continue south through the town of Lindos and arrive directly at the resort of Pefki. If, on the other hand, you are travelling from the south of the island, you must turn right at Lardos.

Beaches of Pefki

The main beach of Pefki is of medium length (about 700 m) and covered with beautifully fine, golden sand. The beach is especially popular with visitors for its tranquillity and relaxation and its amenities include several taverns serving delicious Greek specialities. The beach is separated from its surroundings by olive trees, which beautifully complements the scenery.

Pefki also has several other smaller beaches, which have been created by the rocky nature of the surrounding landscape. These secondary beaches are rather narrow and sometimes also partially hidden behind a wall of greenery, which on the other hand is an advantage - they provide visitors with peace and privacy. Most of them are also sandy and lure with crystal clear water for swimming. The beaches in Pefki provide guests with the traditional services - sunbeds, umbrellas, taverns and various water sports.

Pefkos and tips for trips

The resort of Pefki is situated on the shore of a small peninsula jutting out into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, about 5 km south of the town of Lindos, which was one of the three ancient cities of the island of Rhodes and today is a world-famous archaeological site listed by UNESCO. A visit to the "white town" of Lindos, as it is also known for its unique architecture, is not to be missed. Nearby are the beautiful beaches of Lindos (Megali Paralia), the smaller Pallas and, above all, the wonderfully romantic bay of St. Paul.

Pefki is in a good position for travelling and exploring the beauty of the whole island, as it lies roughly in the middle of the eastern coast and you will have the whole island at your fingertips. There is a road going through the resort connecting the area to the north of the island and during the peak tourist season the local bus service also works well, with routes to the capital city of Rhodes and other resorts on the island.

Apart from the ancient village of Lindos, we recommend visiting the capital city of Rhodes with its rich sights and culture, the thermal baths of Kalithea, the Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes) or some of the beautiful Greek monasteries (Tsambika Monastery, Skiadenis, etc.).

Pefki is suitable for all generations of visitors. The typical holiday atmosphere invites you to laze on the beach and taste fish specialties in the local taverns, while the beautiful surrounding nature invites you to take romantic walks. After sunset, the local bars and discos come alive, so you won't be deprived of nightlife either.

Families with small children will appreciate the beautiful sandy beach and the gentle entrance to the sea.

More adventurous characters will also enjoy the proximity of the road linking the north and south of the island, which is ideal for excursions and exploring the beauty of the whole island.
