The long pebble beach of Akrotiri is located on the southern coast of the Greek island of Santorini, about 11 km south from the capital city of Fira.
The beach is located near the ancient town of Akrotiri, one of the most important archaeological sites, not only on the island, but in whole Greece. It lies in the popular touristic area of the neighbouring beaches of Kambia, Red Beach or White Beach, although itself, it is rather quiet and peaceful.
Akrotiri beach is a long, but more a narrow beach made up of pebbles, sometimes even rocks and stones. The entrance into the sea drops quickly in these places and the water is deep. Therefore, we do not recommend it for families with small children or older tourists. This is probably the main reason why the beach is not crowded even in the summer season.
The visitors of the beach can refresh themselves with a cold drink or a snack at the local tavern. They can also see the island's curiosity here, namely the so-called cave houses, which are used by the fishermen in winter to store their boats.
