The quiet sandy beach of Avis is located on the east coast of the Greek island of Santorini, about 8 km southeast of the main town of Fira.
The beach takes its name from the Avis Tomato factory that used to operate here. Occasionally, the beach is also called Exo Gonia after a nearby inland village. Avis Beach is located north of one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, Kamari Beach.
The surface of the beach consists of black sand and small volcanic pebbles. The beach is partially organized with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are tavernas, snack bars and a mini market in close proximity. Several trees grow along the beach, which give the beach a peaceful atmosphere and natural shade.
The waters here are quite deep and the sea is crystal clear. As the beach is located on the open coastline, there are good weather conditions for adrenaline water sports. Avis is thus particularly popular with windsurfing and kite-surfing enthusiasts.
