The small tourist resort of Firostefani is located in the western part of the Greek island of Santorini, about 2 km north of the main town of Fira. Firostefani is a quieter resort, but it provides excellent facilities for its visitors and benefits especially from its proximity to the main town.
Although Firostefani is considered a separate village, it is actually a suburb of the capital Fira. The name itself, which consists of the words "Fira" and "Stefani", refers to the capital city of Fira and to the word "crown" (in Greek "stefani"). Firostefani is therefore such a "crown", the highest point of the capital, from where there is a magnificent view of the entire caldera (the volcano's vent). You can walk for hours through the narrow streets of the town and watch the scenery open up before you. The view of the sunset in particular is truly unforgettable.
Firostefani is a traditional Greek village with small houses built in the rocks, among which you will find beautiful blue and white churches and cosy restaurants and cafes scattered. Most of the shops are concentrated around the main road. A major advantage of the resort is its proximity to the main town of Fira with its many varied shops, shopping centres and lively nightlife. Firostefani is much quieter than the main town.
The resort is close (9 km) to the port of Athinios, where cruise ships depart daily. The village is situated on the rocks sloping steeply into the sea, so if you want to swim in the sea and sunbathe on the beach, you will have to go to the more gentle coast. We recommend Perissa beach, 13 km away, which is located in the southeast of the island and is one of the most famous beaches on Santorini. You can also visit the closer Monolithos beach.
As a tip for an interesting trip, you can definitely use the nearby capital Fira, which is not only a shopping and entertainment centre, but you can also explore its historical monuments. At a distance of about 10 km lies perhaps the most beautiful place on the island of Santorini - the town of Oia. Further afield, between Imerovigli and Firostefani is the female monastery of Agios Nikolaos, which includes a folklore museum and a museum with rare Byzantine icons.
