Megalochori - Santorini
Megalochori Resort lies in the western part of the island, approximately 10 km from the capital city of Fira. It is a quite traditional place, as we can find many houses built in the Cycladic style and also dug into the rocks.
The eponymous city of Megalochori is surrounded by vineyards and became popular among the tourists for its wine tourism and regular degustation events. The families Boutari, Antoniou and Gavalas belong to the biggest producers of wine. A beautiful square is forming the city centre with some taverns, restaurants and also trees, providing a pleasant shade during the hot summer season. The locals call the square "the heart and soul of the city", they meet each other here for example to play cards or chess. Many paved streets are curvy and there is a very nice bell tower standing above one of them (famous local photo motif).
Not very far from here, there are two small beaches Plaka and Thermi, which can be reached just by foot.
