The seaside resort of Monolithos is located in the eastern part of the Greek island of Santorini, about 8 km east of the capital Fira. It is located close to the Santorini airport.
The resort consists of the smaller Greek village of Monolithos and the whole area is rather quieter. However, it offers tourists all the necessary facilities in the form of hotels and rooms for rent, restaurants, bars and shops. The village gets its name from the rock "Monolithos" on which the church of Agios Ioannis stands. The old tomato canning factory, the first on the island and still in operation, can also be seen here.
The eponymous sandy beach of Monolithos, washed by crystal clear water, stretches along the coast. The local tavernas and restaurants offer excellent fish specialities and other traditional Greek dishes. Heading south, you'll reach the other beautiful beaches of Kamari and Perissa.
The resort of Monolithos is more suitable for a quiet and relaxing holiday and, thanks to its beautiful beach with children's attractions, also for a family holiday. You can walk to the nearby, very popular and busier resort of Kamari. We also recommend visiting the nearby capital of Fira, with its beautiful examples of Cycladic architecture and a wide range of shopping and entertainment options.
