The tiny sand and shingle beach of Cameo is located in the southern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, in the popular Laganas Bay. The beach is unique because it is located on the small island of Agios Sostis (Cameo).
Cameo beach is a small beach covered with small pebbles, sometimes more of a mixture of sand and pebbles, and washed by crystal clear sea. Cameo Beach is one of the tourist gems of Zakynthos and is attractive to visitors mainly due to its location, as it is situated on the small island of Agios Sostis, also known as Cameo Island.
The island of Agios Sostis (Cameo) is a small pine island that forms part of the Laganas Bay and can be reached on foot, as it is connected to the mainland by a narrow wooden footbridge (leading from the beach of Agios Sostis). Cameo Island is a nature reserve and also privately owned, but remains accessible to the public for a fee. The islet has a reputation as more of a "party island", as there are two bars and it is popular with younger visitors. One bar is located on the top of the island, where you have a great view of the surrounding area, and the other bar is located just down by the small Cameo beach. Cameo beach is part of this lower bar.
Cameo beach is not visible from Laganas Bay, as it is on the other side of the island, and thus provides some privacy for its visitors. From the sides, Cameo beach is protected by rocky outcrops and offers a view of the sea distance and another island, Marathonisi, which is called "turtle island". Wedding ceremonies are often held on Cameo beach, with white veils fluttering over the beach and beautiful wedding photographs taken on a small pier jutting out into the sea.
