Makris Gialos beach is located in a small bay on the north-eastern coast of Zakynthos, between the port resort of Agios Nikolaos and the popular tourist resort of Alykes. In addition to tourists, the beach is also visited by people from the small village of Mikro Nisi, which is located nearby.

Makris Gialos is a smaller pebble beach with crystal clear sea, but a rather fast descent into the sea. Not exactly suitable for families with small children. The beach is situated in a bay and is surrounded by the rocky shores of the surrounding hills, which create very interesting scenery underwater and snorkelling is therefore a popular activity for visitors. In addition, there are beautiful sea caves on one side of the beach, which can be swum to and explored more closely.

Makris Gialos beach is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas for a fee, and there are also several tavernas in the hill above the beach, so refreshments are provided during the summer. There is also a small car park above the beach. In the main summer season, pedal boats can also be rented here. A part of the bay is reserved for the mooring of smaller cruise boats and boats that sail from here to the popular tourist destinations of the island, especially the blue caves and Navagio beach with the wreck of a smuggler's ship. Just a short distance away to the south is the famous "sulphur" beach of Xigia.

Makris Gialos beach is not usually crowded, as it lies outside the main holiday resorts of Zakynthos, but it is popular with tourists for its cleanliness and specificity. During the main tourist season, the number of sunbeds and umbrellas is often insufficient (there are a limited number of them), but there is plenty of space left on the beach to spread out your own towels. Makris Gialos beach is easily accessible, just off the main road.
