The beautiful sandy beach of Planos is located in the eastern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 7 km north of the main town of Zante. Planos beach is smoothly connected to the well-known Tsilivi beach, it is partially organized and popular among tourists.
Planos Beach is one of the most famous and popular beaches on the Greek island of Zakynthos. Planos is actually a continuation of the popular and busy Tsilivi beach, or its northern part (the beaches flow seamlessly into each other and there is no visible boundary between them, which is why some people speak of only one long Tsilivi beach). Together, Planos and Tsilivi beaches form the shoreline of a large bay that measures approximately 1.3 km in length.
Planos beach is very similar in type to the neighbouring Tsilivi beach, but it is a bit quieter, probably because the organised parts of the beach with sunbeds and umbrellas are more alternated with the unorganised ones. Planos is a mostly sandy beach, more of a pebble-sand beach in places. The entrance to the sea is gradual and suitable for families with children.
Planos beach has been awarded the EU Blue Flag for its cleanliness, tourist facilities and water quality.
The beach has very good tourist facilities, with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent (including showers, toilets and changing rooms) and a really wide range of water sports. Water adrenaline sports enthusiasts can try out, for example, banana boat rides, water skiing, jet skis, windsurfing, paragliding or even the quieter fun of pedal boats. There are several beach bars and tavernas along the beach, where customers can also sample traditional Greek dishes and seafood. Other tavernas and restaurants are then available in the centre of Tsilivi (or Planos), including a variety of shops and accommodation.
The northern tip of the bay is known as Cape Gaidaros, which is a popular spot for romantic walks around the small harbour with its fishing boats and old Venetian tower with a pyramid roof. Beyond Cape Gaidaros, north of Tsilivi and Planos beaches, are several smaller and quieter beaches. The small bay of Phoenix Beach organises diving trips. The smaller, sandy Bouka Beach invites you to relax and lounge under the umbrellas, while at Gaidaros Beach you can refresh yourself with a cool drink from the beach bar of the same name.
