Porto Roma Beach - Zakynthos island
The small and quiet sandy beach of Porto Roma is located in the south-eastern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, near the famous tourist resort of Vassilikos. Porto Roma beach is located about 16 km southeast of the capital city of Zante, surrounded by beautiful green nature.
Porto Roma beach was named in honour of the famous Zakynthos politician Alessandro Roma, who lived nearby. The beach can be found at the very southeastern tip of Zakynthos, near the very pleasant and quiet resort of Vassilikos. Porto Roma is also one of the quieter beaches, it is partially organised and surrounded by lots of greenery.
The surface of the beach is mainly golden sand and there are also pebbles at the entrance to the sea. Families with children especially appreciate the gradual entry into the water and the beautiful crystal sea. The beach is located in a small bay, so the sea is usually calm, but locals say that the water is a bit colder than on other beaches in Zakynthos. The pine trees and olive groves that surround the beach create a pleasant appearance throughout the bay and also provide visitors with natural shade.
Sun loungers and parasols are available for visitors to Porto Roma beach, and there are also several tavernas around the beach, including specialised fish tavernas. There is a small fishing harbour at Porto Roma, and boats and catamarans can also be hired for boat trips. There are no water sports in this bay, it is a very quiet area with no discos or nightclubs - more entertainment and services can be found for example on the nearby Agios Nikolaos beach. Tourists can stay either in the adjacent village or in the nearby tourist resort of Vassilikos.
There are several beautiful beaches in the area around Vassilikos. To the north, Porto Roma beach is adjacent to the popular and lively sandy beach of Agios Nikolaos or the small and pleasant beach of Plaka. To the south you can visit the beautiful sandy beach of Gerakas or Dafni beach.
