The bay with the rocky beach of Porto Stenitis is located in the northwestern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 33 km northwest of the capital Zante. Fishing boats are anchored in the bay and the clear sea makes it an ideal place for diving.
Porto Stenitis is a narrow bay in the rocks, typical of the western coast of Zakynthos. It is a purely natural place with no tourist facilities in the form of a bar, sunbeds or umbrellas. There is no classic beach here, but rather rocky slopes that in some places slope more gently into the sea, creating places more suitable for relaxing and swimming. Thanks to the crystal clear water and the interesting rock formations hidden under the sea, Porto Stenitis is especially popular with diving and snorkelling enthusiasts.
Porto Stenitis beach is one of the most secluded spots on Zakynthos and you may even find yourself alone during the main tourist season. Porto Stenitis can be reached by land from the nearby village of Maries, which lies about 5 km to the east. However, the asphalt road turns into a gravel road for the last kilometre before the bay, making access to the beach more difficult. Another option, perhaps more convenient, is to rent a boat or dinghy and head into the bay from the sea.
Porto Stenitis bay is anchored mainly by fishing boats. Smaller cruise ships and boats, on the other hand, congregate in the nearby bay of Porto Vromi, where they sail to the most popular tourist destinations on Zakynthos - along the beautiful rocky west coast to Navagio Beach (aka Shipwreck Beach) or the Blue Grottoes.
