The long and narrow bay of Porto Vromi with two small beaches is located in the northwestern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 33 km northwest of the capital Zante. The bay is regularly used by cruise boats to explore the most famous sights and attractions of Zakynthos, accessible from the sea.
There are actually two beaches in Porto Vromi, as well as two access roads leading to the bay from the nearby mountain villages. The bay can be reached either from the village of Anafonitria (about 6 km) or from the village of Maries (about 7 km). However, these roads are separated from each other, and although one can be seen from one down by the coast to the other, it is not possible to cross or go between them as they are separated by a rocky hill. The access roads to the beaches are long with a steep drop down to the coast.
Both beaches are tiny, covered with coarse white sand and pebbles. Porto Vromi beach is one of the more secluded parts of Zakynthos, lying away from the main holiday resorts, and therefore not as affected by tourist traffic. It retains its original atmosphere all the more. It is surrounded by a variety of greenery and rocky landscapes, which, together with the azure colour of the sea in the bay, create a beautiful spectacle.
Porto Vromi beach is without beach service. There is a car park and a small beach bar in the part that can be reached from the village of Maries. However, it is possible to take a boat trip from both parts of the bay, as Porto Vromi is a popular stop and anchorage for smaller cruise ships and boat taxis. These regularly sail from here to the most popular tourist destinations, which are primarily Navagio Beach (aka Shipwreck Beach) or the Blue Caves.
To the south, just a short distance from Porto Vromi, lies a similarly hidden cove with Porto Steniti beach, which is ideal for diving.
