The popular seaside resort of Argassi is located in the southeastern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 4 km southeast of the main town of Zakynthos (Zante). Symbols of this place have become mainly the remains of an old Roman bridge on the local beach and Mount Skopos in the background of the village.
Argassi is located at the beginning of the Vassilikos peninsula, right on a long sandy beach. The scenic beauty of the resort is enhanced by the beautiful nature around it and the high mountain Skopos in the background.
The village has been popular with tourists since the beginning of the development of tourism on Zakynthos and has gradually become one of the most popular resorts with very good tourist facilities. The main life of the resort is around the main road - a promenade stretching around the beach and lined with various tavernas, restaurants, bars and shops. In the centre, visitors can also enjoy the various amusement parks and games rooms, play mini-golf, see the animals in the mini-zoo and join in the lively nightlife after sunset. Traditionally, Greek folk music is played from the venues, but DJs from all over the world often play music as well.
There are many hotels and apartments available to tourists in the Argassi accommodation area, some of which are built on the hill, others lower down in the plain. A large number of these are situated close to the main promenade and beach, but accommodation can also be found in quieter parts of the resort.
The village of Argassi has good transport links to the capital of Zakynthos and consequently to the rest of the island. There is a bus service to the capital Zante, which is only 4 km away, several times a day, and during the main summer season there is a nice tourist train which is especially popular with children. The resort has rental cars, motorbikes, etc., so we recommend renting a vehicle and exploring the island of Zakynthos with all its beauty and sights.
The long sandy beach of Argassi stretches along the resort, which consists of several smaller bays with clear blue water. Visitors will enjoy the beach service of sun loungers, umbrellas and showers and the wide range of water sports on offer.
The village of Argassi and its surroundings boast several interesting sights. One of the symbols of this place is the remains of a Venetian stone bridge from 1805, which stands right on the beach of Argassi. However, more than half of the original bridge is now drowned in the sea.
Another local attraction is the Vrysakia aqueduct, which in the past supplied the area with water and whose remains can be seen today behind the village of Argassi. Unfortunately, there are no signposts on the way to this monument, so you have to rely on the locals to guide you out of the resort and into the countryside around Argassi. From the aqueduct you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area and there is nothing but nature all around you.
The local medieval tower or the ancient churches and monasteries are also certainly worth a visit. On the top of Mount Skopos (496 m above sea level) is the monastery of Panagia Skopiotissa, where according to mythology the goddess Artemis resided and from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The current appearance of the monastery dates back to the 17th century.
Argassi is one of the most popular tourist resorts on Zakynthos and has very good tourist facilities in the form of quality accommodation, tavernas, restaurants, shops and other services such as car rental. The resort of Argassi is thus suitable for all ages as it can cater to the diverse needs of visitors. Many tourists and residents of the capital also head to Argassi for the local nightlife, but the outskirts of the resort are very quiet.
The resort is bordered by a narrow sandy beach with a gentle entrance to the sea, which is suitable for older visitors and families with children, as well as for active visitors, as there are, for example, sports equipment rentals.
