Kampi Tourist Resort

Kampi (or Kambi) is a very nice, traditional village in Zakynthos with only a few dozen permanent residents. They are mainly engaged in agriculture and farming, and in the village you can also buy handmade products such as mats, homemade honey or quality olive oil. The village is surrounded by a picturesque and calming countryside of olive groves, fields and vineyards. Other smaller resorts such as Exo Chora, Maries and Agios Leontas are located nearby Kampi.

There are several cafes in Kampi and nice apartments and rooms for rent. However, most tourists usually only head here for a short trip, especially for the amazing views of the sunset, the endless distance of the Ionian Sea and the steep cliffs below the lookout. There is the so-called Seal Bay, which gets its name from the seals that come here every year to breed in the sea caves.

Mount Shiza and the Kampi Cross

The resort of Kampi is dominated by Shiza Peak, an ideal spot for watching the sunset and the rocky coastline of the island dropping deep down into the sea. At the top of the Shiza cliff stands the large concrete Kampi Cross (also known as the Shiza Cross), erected here to commemorate the victims of the Greek Civil War and World War II. There are several tavernas and cafes on the top of the cliff and in the surrounding area, where you can enjoy the sunset with a good wine or a traditional Greek meal.

Kambi is also known for archaeological finds from the Mycenaean period, such as the remains of a Mycenaean burial site. Unfortunately, many of the Mycenaean tombs have been opened and destroyed by excavators in the past, but others contained weapons, vases and other objects that have helped archaeologists to better know and understand life during this period.
