The small and quiet seaside resort of Limni Keri with a harbour is located in the southern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 18 km southwest of the main town of Zante. The area of Keri is ideal not only for relaxation, but also for diving and snorkelling thanks to its interesting rock formations and crystal clear water.
The peaceful seaside resort of Limni Keri (sometimes also Limni Keriou) is situated on a hillside at the westernmost end of the vast Laganas Bay with the most popular holiday resorts of Laganas, Kalamaki and Agios Sostis. The tourist part of the resort of Limni Keri is right on the shoreline, where there used to be the lake Keriou, from which the area got its name (Limni means "lake" in Greek). Unfortunately, over time the lake has completely dried up.However, the area around the lake is still very fertile today, and the locals are mainly involved in growing vegetables, olives and raising domestic animals.
Limni Keri is a pleasant resort, very closely connected to the surrounding green nature. It offers visitors accommodation mainly in cosy apartments and family-run guesthouses, but there are also several smaller hotels and a campsite a few kilometres away. Several bars, cafes and tavernas are scattered around the beach and the harbour, offering traditional Zakynthos delicacies, ripe cheeses, pastries, delicious Greek wines and fresh fish.
Adjacent to the holiday resort of Limni Keri is Keri beach, which is mostly pebbly, sometimes even rocky, but where you can also find strips of pure sandy beach. The sand prevails at the entrance to the sea and continues along the seabed, so swimming is pleasant and even families with children head to the beach. The surrounding greenery (mostly pines) is also an advantage, providing natural shade for visitors. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for the cleanliness of the sea.
Keri beach has good tourist facilities in the form of several taverns, cafes and bars located along the beach, tourists can also use sunbeds and umbrellas for rent or sanitary facilities. There is a diving school in Keri, as the area around the southern tip of Zakynthos is very popular with diving and snorkelling enthusiasts as well as surfing, sailing etc. The beautiful caves, rock formations and crystal clear sea regularly attract many of them here. Among the most interesting places are certainly the Keri Caves and the white rocks of Myzithres.
An important part of the beach is the Keri harbour, where small boats are moored and can be hired to explore these beautiful places more closely. We recommend a trip to the "turtle" island of Marathonisi, which is directly opposite Keri beach, or to the nearby Marathias beach, the Keri caves or the white rocks of Myzithres.
The Limni Keri area is dominated by boat trips, which include cruises around Cape Keri (or Cape Marathia), the southernmost point of Zakynthos, and other nearby destinations mentioned above - especially the island of Marathonisi, the caves of Keri or the interesting rock formations of Myzithres. You can also walk to the neighbouring Marathia beach.
However, the Limni Keri area is also beautiful on land and ideal for hiking in the surrounding area. A few kilometres from the seaside resort of Limni Keri, towards the hilly hinterland, lies the original, ancient part of the village of Keri. The old part of Keri consists of small stone houses and very narrow streets. In the square stands the church of Panagia Keriotissa and is surrounded by traditional workshops and factories that preserve traditional crafts. The village of Keri is certainly worth a visit to discover the other face of Limni Keri.
The village of Keri also includes the old 9-metre high Keri (or Pharos) lighthouse, which stands on top of the cliffs and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area. It is a popular walking destination, especially at sunset when the bright Myzithres (or Mitzitres) cliffs are beautifully lit.
The tourist resort of Limni Keri is a small and quiet resort, which is visited by tourists looking for peace and relaxation, not demanding services and entertainment, and also by fans of diving, snorkelling and other adrenaline water sports, as the area around Limni Keri and Cape Keri is one of the most important diving areas in Europe.
There are apartments and guesthouses nearby, restaurants and tavernas on the beach promenade offering typical Greek food and fresh fish. The village has an open grocery shop selling local produce and souvenirs. The nightlife is not very lively, but the tavernas often host live music nights.
For more shopping, tourist attractions and lively nightlife, we recommend going to the nearby resort of Laganas (about 14 km), which is the island's busiest and most popular resort, or directly to the capital Zante. There is a local bus service in Limni Keri, which connects you with the nearby resorts and the capital of Zakynthos. It is possible to rent a car (or motorbike, bicycle, etc.) and explore the beauty of Zakynthos more thoroughly.
