Mouzaki was founded in the 16th century and is one of the oldest villages on Zakynthos. It is situated in the middle of a fertile flat area with low hills and extensive olive groves, in the interior of the island, about 5 km from the coast of Laganas Bay. It is a small and pleasant village decorated with traditional Zakynthos architectural style.

In Mouzaki there are two old churches - the 18th century Church of Our Lady and the 19th century Church of Agios Nikolaos. Their old bells in particular are rated as very significant. The church of Agios Nikolaos was severely damaged during the earthquake of 1953, but has since been restored in its original style. The village of Mouzaki and its churches come alive every year on 14 and 15 August, when the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary takes place.

Although Mouzaki is close to the seaside resort of Laganas, one of the busiest and most popular holiday resorts, it remains a very peaceful and traditional place. However, there are a few apartments and villas for rent.
