The small and quiet seaside resort of Porto Koukla is located in the southern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, about 13 km southwest of the main town of Zante. The resort is located in the vast and very popular Laganas Bay, in close contact with the surrounding green nature.
The small seaside resort of Porto Koukla is located in the western part of the vast bay of Laganas, close to the other popular tourist resorts of Agios Sostis and especially Laganas, which is one of the most popular and busiest resorts on the island of Zakynthos. There is a bus stop in Porto Koukla, but the nearby resorts of Agios Sostis (approx. 1 km) and Laganas (approx. 3 km) can also be easily reached on foot.
Porto Koukla is a pleasant and quiet resort, very closely connected with the surrounding green nature. There are mainly smaller accommodation facilities such as family-run guesthouses or individual apartments. There are several nice restaurants and tavernas near the beach, serving traditional Greek dishes and seafood. A larger number of bars and shops can be found in the neighbouring resort of Agios Sostis, while tourists can find more varied shopping opportunities and entertainment attractions in the nearby resort of Laganas or in the capital of Zakynthos.
The resort is adjacent to the Porto Koukla beach of the same name, a narrow, sandy and pebble beach with a gradual entrance to the sea. The beach is very calm, surrounded by bushes and other vegetation, providing a pleasant shade for beachgoers, and washed by a clear and calm sea. Porto Koukla is one of the organised beaches, with sunbeds, umbrellas and showers available, and there are also several restaurants and tavernas along the beach serving excellent traditional cuisine.
Towards the east, Porto Koukla beach smoothly connects to the neighbouring beach of Agios Sostis (approx. 1 km), which is also rather narrow, covered with fine golden sand. Agios Sostis has a marina from which boats depart for cruises around the island. Tourists can also rent a boat or dinghy for a private cruise. Agios Sostis beach is also famous for the fact that a narrow wooden bridge leads directly from it to one of the small islands of Laganas Bay, the island of Agios Sostis (Cameo). Going further east, you will reach the sandy and spacious Laganas beach (about 3 km), one of the busiest and best equipped beaches on Zakynthos.
The Porto Koukla area is a quiet, very natural resort, ideal for walks around the area and along the coast. If you go to the neighbouring beach of Agios Sostis, we recommend visiting the small island of Agios Sostis, which the locals call Cameo after one of the local bars. The island is full of interesting rock formations and pine trees, there are also two bars and a small pebble beach called Cameo among the rocks.
The most popular excursions on Zakynthos are traditionally boat trips. In the bay of Laganas, you can approach three small islands by boat - besides Cameo Island, there is also Marathonisi Island and Pelouzo Island. On Marathonisi Island you can stop and, with care, also stay on Marathonisi beach and enjoy the local atmosphere. Marathonisi is nicknamed "Turtle Island" because the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles roam here and lay their eggs in the sand at night. Pelouzo Island can only be circumnavigated, but it is off-limits to the public as it is home to the endangered Monachus monachus seal.
The big attractions of Zakynthos are especially the blue caves and the "Shipwreck" beach of Navagio.
From a historical point of view, the capital of Zakynthos, which is only about 13 km northeast of here, is very nice. The capital of Zakynthos is a beautiful harbour town, very picturesque and welcoming. The cathedral of St. Dionysius or St. Mark's Square are particularly famous. In the capital you can also enjoy a wealth of shopping and entertainment opportunities.
The tourist resort of Porto Koukla is a small and quiet resort, which is mainly visited by tourists looking for peace and relaxation, not demanding services and entertainment. Thanks to the tourist facilities in the form of guesthouses and excellent tavernas, they are well taken care of and the small, sandy and pebble beach is ideal for rest and relaxation in the shallow water.
The resort of Porto Koukla is situated in the spacious and very popular Laganas Bay, where several livelier tourist resorts can be found. For more shopping or entertainment, it's not far from here. There is a bus stop in the resort.
The nightlife is very quiet in Porto Koukla, for busier evening entertainment we recommend going either to the islet of Cameo, where there is a night bar and disco, or to the nearby resort of Laganas (about 3 km), whose centre is alive until the morning, or straight to the capital Zante (about 13 km).
