The Skinari windmills are located on the northern tip of Zakynthos, the so-called Cape Skinari. In the past there were several stone windmills, two of which have been restored and now serve as unique accommodation facilities.
The historic Skinari windmills stand on a rocky promontory in the northern part of the island, about 33 km northwest of the capital Zante. The windmills no longer serve their original purpose, but have become a pleasant attraction on Zakynthos. Two of the windmills have been restored to preserve as faithfully as possible the appearance of these historic buildings, but their interiors have also been adapted to accommodate guests.
There is a restaurant near the windmills with a family hotel which, in addition to the two windmills, offers two rooms and an apartment for accommodation. From the site there is a magnificent view of the surrounding rocks and the shimmering distances of the sea. From the viewpoint, it is possible to watch the boats and boats arriving and heading for the famous blue caves. Another interesting feature of the windmills is that there were stairs built in the rock right down to the sea surface and one of the so-called blue caves is located just below the cliffs. The stairs are partly covered and have resting places with deck chairs.
The so-called blue caves are a well-known tourist attraction of Zakynthos and most of them are located around the northern tip of the island, Cape Skinari. However, the blue caves are only accessible from the sea, as they are located under steep cliffs, some of which reach heights of up to 50 m. An exception is the viewpoint at the windmills, where you can reach the blue cave on foot thanks to the stairs. Often, boat trips to the blue caves are also combined with a stop at the "Smuggler's" bay (Navagio).
The Skinari windmills can be reached by car along the asphalt road leading north from the small village of Korithi. After about 2 km there is a crossroads with a tavern and a small car park. A right turn leads directly to the windmills and if you continue a little further north, there is another beautiful structure - the still active Skinari Lighthouse.
