Korakonissi - island of Zakynthos

Korakonissi

The rocky promontory of Korakonissi forms part of the western coast of Zakynthos. The narrow rocky strait formed between the Korakonisi reef and the rest of the mainland is very popular, especially with snorkelling enthusiasts and unusual swimming spots.

Korakonissi Rock is located off the south-west coast of Zakynthos, close to the beaches of Porto Roxa and Porto Limnionas to the south. It is very similar in type to these beaches, although Korakonissi beach cannot be spoken of in the strict sense of the word. Rather, it is a rocky outcrop, which is only connected to the mainland in one small place and is still largely under the sea. And this is a very beautiful place and ideal for snorkelling.

Another special feature of Korakonisi is the rock arch, over 20 metres high, through which you can see the distances of the Ionian Sea. Adrenaline lovers dare to jump from these higher places, but most visitors go down to the narrow strait. The water here is cool and crystal clear with a stunning seabed. Through diving goggles or a mask, you can watch the amazing spectacle of the sun's rays penetrating the seawater and reflecting off the rocky cliffs.

Korakonisi Rock is located near the small mountain village of Kiliomenos, from where you head north towards the village of Agios Leontas. After about 1 km of driving, there is a signpost to the left for Korakonissi. Continue following the signpost so that you are still facing the sea. Cars and other means of transport are parked on top of the rocks by a small taverna and you have to continue down to the sea on foot. The path down to the cliffs is very steep, but you can use the steps and ropes that have been built. The other option is to come to the rock from the sea, e.g. on a rented boat.

Due to the remoteness of the location and the rocky nature of the beach, we recommend bringing plenty of liquids and headgear. A small taverna up on the rocks offers simple refreshments but operates rather irregularly. Korakonissi beach is natural, unorganised and stands out above all for its wild natural beauty.
