Viewpoint Bochali

The small village of Bochali, with its eponymous Venetian fortress, is situated on a hill in the south-eastern part of the Greek island of Zakynthos, just above its capital Zante. From the viewpoint of Bochali, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the entire bay with its harbour town and the blue distances of the Ionian Sea.

Bochali is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the whole island of Zakynthos, located northwest just 2 km from the centre of the capital and from here you will have the whole bay with the capital of Zakynthos, its harbour and its picturesque surroundings in the palm of your hand. The most popular place to see the capital is the upper part of the village of Bochali with its small square and the church of Agios Georgios with its detached bell tower. Right next to the church there is a nice café with outdoor seating where you can enjoy the views with a good drink or coffee.

The remains of the old 17th-century Venetian fortress of Bochali tower over the village, which now only includes parts of the outer walls and the entrance gate, but which also makes an excellent lookout point. Hikers who make their way to the top of the hill to the fortress will be rewarded with views of the interior of the island and beyond.

As well as the Agios Georgios Church and the Bochali Fortress, you can also visit the Maritime Museum or the open-air theatre while walking around Bochali. Several traditional tavernas and cafes operate in the village, some even late into the night.

You can observe the particularly beautiful and different colours of the sea here in the morning after dawn and, conversely, very romantic pictures are taken in the evening at sunset and after dark, when the harbour town and the bay glow into the dark night. The village of Bochali can be reached on foot from the capital, Zante, by a beautiful panoramic path that starts at the church of Panagia Pikridiotissa, leads through the old quarters of the capital and then through the pine forest (the walk takes about 20 to 30 minutes). By car, the hill is circumnavigated from the other side, the road is also only about 2 km long and leads you directly to the free parking lot.
